Medical Mission Trip to Nepal

Hello, My name is Brittany DeNaro. I am a 2nd year medical student at TouroCOM. For those of you that know me, it has always been my dream to travel abroad and provide medical treatment in underserved areas. Upon my acceptance into medical school, I promised myself that I would search for opportunities to serve those in desperate need of medical care. This September, I learned about Rural Community Development Program (RCDP). RCDP was established in 1998 and has worked to provide affordable volunteer programs to people all over the world. To date, RCDP has had over 12,000 volunteers in 20 countries. RCDP is one of the few programs that pays the program fee directly to the project and host families. After looking further into this organization, I decided now was the right time to travel abroad and start giving back.
This December myself and nine other classmates are going to Kathmandu, Nepal to volunteer in a local hospital. Medical care in Nepal is extremely limited and the medical facilities are often overwhelmed due to insufficient resources. As a volunteer, I will be assisting local doctors to provide dire medical care such as treatment for fever, colds, wound stitches, as well as assisting in surgical procedures.
The trip will take place from December 13th to December 31st 2013 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The flight is $1750 and the program cost is $650. In Nepal, I will be living with a host family and will be able to truly understand and appreciate their culture while volunteering.
Any donation amount, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for helping me attain my life-long goal of traveling abroad and taking care of those less fortunate than us.
