Merita Tillman had a massive stroke

Welcome to our GoFundMe for Merita Tillman. On February 13th, our beloved Merita had a massive stroke sometime early Tuesday morning and was not found in her home until several hours later by her daughter, Mary Kay Pendergraph.

She was immediately rushed to Duke Hospital, but currently is unable to speak and has limited movement on her right side. Doctors report that she has cerebral swelling, and they are continuing to monitor her condition closely as it is critical to her recovery. She is currently in the Duke Neurology ICU.

Unable to speak or swallow well enough to eat on her own, the doctors expect a long and difficult recovery for Merita. She seems to understand much of what we say, and true to her determined spirit, she's eager to start moving on her own. She is a fighter.

Anytime you hold her hand she will squeeze it tight and she will nod at times in response to our questions. We are praying for her full recovery despite the fact that we know it will be a long and difficult road. We are hoping that insurance will cover some of Merita's expenses, but it is likely that her expenses for current and ongoing care will be very costly.
