Help James With Post Stroke Recovery

Donation protected
Our fellow alumni James Manuel, SOPP Class of 2007, suffered a massive stroke on January 31, 2018. This unfortunate and unexpected event occurred only three weeks after the birth of his second daughter. Consequently, his private practice partner, Morgan Lucas, SOPP Class of 2008, was already on maternity leave when this tragedy stuck.

In fact, between early morning feedings of their newborn, Morgan found James non- responsive and bent over his computer. She astutely assessed the severity of the situation and called for the ambulance. James was life-flighted to the hospital where a large clot was removed from his brain. He was also treated for multiple pulmonary embolisms and clots in both legs. He was on a ventilator for a short time after his surgery. Thankfully James has regained most of his physical mobility. However he is still working to recover speech and other cognitive skills.

Unfortunately, as a self-employed clinician, James’ medical insurance coverage renewal was delayed until 31 days after the birth of his youngest and therefore he currently facing this process without insurance. Additionally he will likely be out of work for a significant period of time. Medical and Speech Therapy bills are adding up quickly for this young family.

SOPP, let’s rally in support of our own! Please join me in supporting James and Morgan as they work towards James’ recovery and providing for their children, ages 5 weeks, 21 months, and 12 years old.
