My older sister Tiffany is 25 years old and has been going to court in Burlington, Vermont for almost a year now for an aggressive assault (felony) charge for defending herself.
Tiffany had an altercation with one of the girls a day prior to the incident. The next day that same girl along with a group of 4-6 other girls (wearing sweats, sneakers, hoodies on a Saturday night at bar/lounge meanwhile Tiffany was wearing a red dress and heels) bee-lined after her into a bar bathroom the size of a closet to jump her and one of the 5-7 girls ended up getting seriously injured.
Last Friday, February 9th Tiffany was informed that the State wants her to do 9 months of jail time with a felony charge plus 5 years of probation with her court date being only 11 days away. NOT to mention even AFTER the incident a couple of those same girls have harassed, followed and threatened her on about 3 other occassions.
My sister Tiffany does not deserve to go to jail. Tiffany has always been a honor student through out grade school through high school. Tiffany only ended up in Vermont because she was accepted into the University of Vermont with it fully paid for and was on her last year of getting her bachelor's before she decided to take time off. Tiffany would've been the first in our family to graduate College.
Since the incident Tiffany has moved out of Vermont back to her hometown in New York City as soon as her apartment lease finished in Vermont to avoid anymore Drama and any more avoidable charges. AND Tiffany has not been in trouble since. Tiffany has also taken and completed anger management courses to help her better manage situations such as this one.
Since leaving Vermont, Tiffany got a job immediately after moving to NYC and at a point worked 2 jobs, 7 days a week for about 3 months straight to get the her own apartment which she now has. Also, in November Tiffany started working on her potential career path as a Paralegal for a Lawyer at a Personal Injury Firm. My sister has worked incredibly hard to get her life together and overcome these obsticles. But we're afraid if Tiffany is convicted, it will be beyond difficult to get her life back on the right track.
