My neice robyn is a 14 year old from North Bay Ontario who has been diagosed with severe scoliosis. Last fall her parents noticed a lump in her back they made an appointment to see their family doctor who sent her for x-rays ..then that doctor referred her to a pediatrician.. because of the severity of her scoliosis no pediatrician in North Bay could do anything for her so they referred her to CHEO in Ottawa. Robyn had her first x-ray which was at a 40 degree curve and the curvature increased by 10 degrees every appointment now with surgery approaching on September 12th her curvature is now at 90 degrees.
Robyn is scheduled for a 12-hour surgery to have two titanium rods inserted into her back to help straighten her scoliosis she will be in hospital for up to 5 days but will have to stay in Ottawa for at least 10 days after the surgery if all goes well.
She will have both her parents there with her for loving support. We are raising these funds to help my family with costs of gas food laundry hotel and to take care of some of the bills at home while they are off work with Robyn. She will have to heal for 4 to 6 weeks at home.. then will have to travel back to Ottawa for a follow-up appointment at 6 weeks..and will have to other appointments to CHEO throughout the year. This has been extremely hard on my neice Robyn and her father who is my brother and their family as we recently lost my mom (Robyn's grandmother) to a massive stroke less 3 weeks ago. So with that.. our family has been thru so very much heartache and stress ...we would like to lessen the stress and worry so my brother and wife can take a leave from work to focus on Robyn's surgury and her healing to get her back on her feet so she can get back to doing the things she loves to do with out pain. Like painting crafting cooking camping and most importantly ....being a healthy kid.
We are in great need of this help for my neice and her family.
