International Experience in Telecom

Overview
This program is a joint venture between Murray State University and West Kentucky Community and Technical College. MSU and WKCTC students will collaborate with Belizean students designing, implementing, and providing training for a wireless network for a pre-selected site. The wifi network design and implementation will be carried out by the study abroad students and selected Belizean students. Technical support training for sustainable ongoing support will be provided to staff/students by our students. Wifi network equipment will be donated.
The program will take place in 3 locations:
1- San Ignacio (Service Learning Site)
2- Lamanai (Mayan Ruin Site)
3- San Pedro

Course
TSM 388 "“ International Experience in Telecommunications (3 credit hours)
Students will gain three hours of MSU credit. This course will begin during the second half of the spring semester, concluding with the travel and service learning portion of the program taking place in Belize. Pre-departure course activities will prepare students for the program overseas. All activities and excursions in Belize are a part of the course and participation is required. Some students may need credit in other academic areas. Credit for a different course can be negotiated for these students if needed.

Accommodations
Participants will stay in hotels while traveling in Belize.

Travel
Airline tickets will be reserved as a group. Students will travel together with faculty, staff and other student participants to the study site. Upon arrival, all participants will be met and transported to the local accommodations. All on-site transport, including bus or rail travel, is provided as part of the program fee. Costs associated with independent travel outings during free time are not included in the program fee.
