Help Unified CrossFit Grow

Hi, my name is Jenny, and I am a teacher at Sweetwater Union High School in the Sweetwater Union High School District in (Chula Vista) San Diego, Ca. I teach all levels of English, and I am a coach. For years working in this district, I have wanted to start a CrossFit Club program that is accessible to the students. This long awaited goal is finally happening.

Thanks to an after school program, I am able to get things started, but we are still struggling to find funding to buy more equipment and to pay for coaching. I think it will be a hard process, and a long process, but I also believe CrossFit will change the lives of so many of our students that I am doing all I can to make this a success.

My goal with Unified CrossFit is to start a teens program at every high school on the west side of my district (6 high schools). Why the west side? Because we are considered the “less than” schools. We are the title 1 schools, have over 80% of free and reduced lunch students, and in our area alone, 1 out of every 3 kids are considered overweight or obese.

It is my hope, as we continue to grow the teens programs across the west side, that we will eventually have a competition between the schools, and make it almost a games worthy feel for the kids. I hope someday it will be such a popular event, it will give every club on campus an opportunity to set up booths and use it as a fundraiser. Perhaps even grab a few sponsors on our way! How fun would that be?!
