Kristies story - CANCER - the 6 letter word that ruined my life. 3 years ago I found a lump just underneath my breast, I didn’t think anything of it, so went to my doctor at the time and he didn’t think anything of it as well. Diagnosed me with a torn muscle, sent me home with pain relief and told me it will get better in 6 weeks.
After 6 weeks it was noticeably bigger and more painful, went back to the doctor and he said still a torn muscle, didn’t sent me for scans just more endone. I wasn’t happy with that so I went for a second opinion, the doctor did the same thing so I thought okay yeah I just haven’t rested the muscle enough. 6 months went by and it was bigger and more painful yet again! The doctor kept saying it was the torn muscle, surely after 6 months of it not healing both doctors should of sent me for a scan?
No so I sought after a third opinion and when I presented myself to my now doctor he goes that’s not right at all, sent me for bone scan, ultrasound, Xray and MRI. The MRI and ultrasound showed a 5cm tumour in my chest wall. Diagnosis was Sarcoma Cancer. That was 12 months after I found it! It is now 14cm long and my now specialist told me on Wednesday if they had done something back when I found it I wouldn’t be in the situation I am now. As of next week I start severe chemotherapy for 18months and then radiotherapy and if that doesn’t work I will be undergoing dramatic surgery to remove it before it infects my lung.
- We are asking for funding so Kristie can pay for her treatment and medications as well living expenses as Kristie won’t be able to work. The Mitchell family and her partner Trent are under an enormous amount of pressure and need our help. Although we cannot cure this terrible disease, any support we can provide will offer some relief.
Our goal is to raise $5000 to assist with ongoing medical and day to day living expenses as well some money there for Kristie to preserve her eggs due to treatment destroying her chances for having children in the future.
