The 54321 Challenge is all set for Year Number 8.. with a difference!
„ Back to simplicity in complicated times“
The 54321 Challenge was originally started 8 years ago with a team of 5 People over 4 DAYS, completing 3 CYCLES, and climbing 2 MOUNTAINS for 1 Cause – a local charity.
The Challenge has grown in numbers over the years, and this year was to be no different with a large number of participants ready to undertake the challenge. However due to the current COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic and the corresponding lockdown, and health & safety recommendations from the HSA around large groups of people, the 54321 Challenge committee made the tough decision that all 50 participants could not complete this years Challenge. The 54321 Challenges top priority is to ensure the safety of its participants and in the current climate, this extends to their families, neighbours, friends etc. . Instead the decision has been made that the Challenge will revert to the original 5 participants undertaking the 4 day challenge, and this will take place from Thursday 20th to Sunday 23rd of August 2019 inclusive. This will include the following.
Day 1 (Thursday 20th) - Cycle the Ring of Kerry.
Day 2 (Friday 21st) - Climb Carrantuohill.
Day 3 (Saturday 22nd) - Cycle from Killarney to the foot of Mount Brandon and then climb Mt Brandon
Day 4 (Sunday 23rd) - Cycle from Dingle to Killarney.
This year’s selected charities are Skellig Stars (Group of children and adult athletes with special needs); The Kerry Hospice and Enable Ireland Kerry and each charity will have a champion undertaking the challenge on their behalf.
