Stand Strong, Stand Together

When you think about twins, you think about double the giggles, double the grins AND ALWAYS DOUBLE THE TROUBLE. It is believed that twins interact and begin to build their unique life long bond as early as 14 weeks in the womb. From the beginning, a special bond between twins is created as they grow to the same beat of their mother's heart. They share uncondictional love, respect for each other and bring out the best in one another. As they make their journeys through life, they experiece twice the joy, twice the blessings and twice the love. But one journey you could never imagine, is the thought of both of them being diagnosed and fighting the same disease, and that is cancer.

In late 2015, Tony Jones was officially diagnosed with Stage 2 colon cancer. A year and a half into his battle, his twin sister, Tonia Jones was diagnosed with stomach cancer after a tumor was discovered during an unrelated surgery. Fast forward to 2018, after mutiple surgeries, chemo, radiation and relentless trips to the hospital, Tony and Tonia are still battling to conquer this disease. Even though Tonia and Tony may have been diagnosed at different times in their lives, time and being separated by 226 miles has yet to stop the both of them from sheer determination to come out on top.

Tonia has been one of our local hero's since November 2001. She has served for over 16 years in the same community where she was raised. Her continued mission has been to empower young officers to think outside of the box and to really look at a neighborhood to try to identify and address the needs of that community, versus just "hook and book". Tony on the other hand took an alternate path; he moved to the city that never sleeps, New York and became an IT Specialist. What is coincidental about Tony's career is while Tony was diagnosed with cancer, he was working on the same computers and in the same hospital that is now trying to save his life.

You know they always say, "Everybody will make a good first impression, but only a few will make a good lasting impression". For those of you who have Tonia and Tony in your lives or have had the simple pleasure of ust meeting the two of them, you can say without a doubt, these two respresent the, "few". They do this in their own individual way whether it is with a smile, a joke or a story. Tonia and Tony can always light up a room and your heart. Their unconditional generosity, kindness and loyalty towards their friends and family is something, I wish every person could experience at least once in their lifetime.

On behalf of the Jones/Alston Family, please consider helping Tonia and Tony. The monetary donations raised will cover a large amount of medical bills, continued chemotherapy treatments, food and everyday essential supplies and no gift is too small.

As of today, Tonia and Tony are still fighting for their lives but are determined to not let this disease defeat them. Please keep the Jones/Alston family in your thoughts and prayers, and thank you to all who have lent a hand and continue to support Tonia and Tony during throughout their battle.
