Help Coy Fight Cancer

My brother Coy was diagnosed with thyroid cancer last year at 37 years old. He is married and also has a 16 year old son. The cancer had metastasized, spreading to his sternum (breast bone). Coy underwent surgery to remove his thyroid gland, a portion of the sternum, and surrounding lymph nodes in the neck. This was followed with radioactive iodine treatment. He recovered and for months afterwards we were hopeful that he would require no further treatment.

Unfortunately, a new lesion was found in his sternum. This lesion is aggressive and painful, causing pain in the chest and throughout his shoulders and arms. On Friday, November 8th, Coy will undergo surgery again to remove this lesion and a larger portion of his sternum. The surgeon will be using Coy's pectoral muscle to replace the missing sternum. Coy will require physical therapy to regain some of the strength in his arms and upper body and his recovery will be long.


He has been unable to work for months due to the constant pain and weakness and with this upcoming surgery and recovery, he will be unable to continue his line of work for the foreseeable future. He is receiving excellent care at the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, OH but it is a 2.5-3 hr drive each way and usually an overnight hotel stay on a regular basis.


Any amount donated will be used for travel and living expenses while Coy is fighting cancer and working towards recovery. Thank you for your support and generosity during this trying time for Coy and the rest of our family.
