Bali Volcano Relief Fund

Donation protected
My name is Terri Champagne, and I am a part group of people from Canada, USA, Australia, England, Peru, and Venezuela, who live and work in, or simply just love Bali. This account has been set up by me for my colleague, the team leader on the ground in Bali, Rob Thorsteinson, because he is unable to start an account originating in Bali as GoFundMe will not allow it. I keep this account up to date and forward the funds to Rob and his team in Bali so he can purchase and distribute the items needed to the evacuation camps surrounding Mount Agung. The people we are helping are humans just like us; many of them are relatives of our friends and colleagues on the island. We have the ability to change their circumstances with as little as the cost of a coffee. The funds you donate are deposited into my (Terri's) bank account in Australia, then are directed via wire transfer to Rob who is in Bali. He then withdraws the funds and spends the money directly on the necessary items mentioned below and distributes to those in need within the radius of danger surrounding Mount Agung.

Areas most affected by the Agung Volcano activity are now in imminent death alert. Mass flooding, eruptions and ash are happening NOW! 175,000+++ people are in poorly equipped evacuation centres and that number rises every day. Food and supplies are difficult to get. We are in Bali right now, and are doing our best to feed, clothe, shelter, and evacuate to those who are affected to safer ground. We have taken 10 tons of rice to 22 evacuation sites, as well as 220 giant water bottles, thousands of noodle bags, eggs, and other necessary food items. We have also donated 220 fans, 12 industrial fans, 166 large water proof lanterns, 44 large flood lights, and extension cords. We got 15,000 biohadzard masks on faces. We educated 22 smaller camps with 50 to 300 in each, so about 5000ish people to date. We've given 1000 blankets, 88 air mattresses, 1000 toys, 2000 books, and 500 teddy bears for little ones. Thousands of diapers and baby formula have been distributed. They have been given 200,000 masks and 230,000 ventolin shots. So approximately $103,000 CAD in total has been spent. We will continue to purchase necessary items, such as masks, food, and life necessities, with your donations as they come in.

We are heartbroken by what we have seen in these camps -  elderly left behind or dead. People are scared, wet and in trauma, and they need our help now.

Biohazard face masks are URGENTLY needed right now to help protect people from inhaling the volcanic ash, which carries poisonous silica dust particles that are harmful to humans and animals alike, acting as tiny blades on the lungs. These particles create small cuts that can scar the lung tissue when inhaled through the nose or mouth. Scarred lungs do not open and close as well, making breathing more difficult - a disease called silicosis. The U.S. Department of Safety calls silica a “carcinogen.” This means that silica can cause cancer, including lung cancer. Acute silicosis forms a few weeks or months after high levels of silica exposure. This condition progresses rapidly. Accelerated silicosis comes on five to 10 years after exposure. Chronic silicosis occurs 10 years or more after silica exposure. Even low exposure levels can cause chronic silicosis. We are already seeing the effects of the ash in Bali, and will continue to do so. One box of masks is $20, and contains 20 masks - that is $1 per person! Every single dollar will help!

At the moment we are personally buying and delivering these items every 48 hours and we have covered 2500 families for 30 days as of December 5th, 2017, but it’s simply not enough. The Balinese government is unbelieveably overwhelmed - no one country could possibly do this alone. Every penny you give will go DIRECTLY into the hands of the most needy. Our goal is to supply 25,000 people with what they need as fast as we can. Please share, give ,and pray. We’ve told the people that the world knows their struggle and that help is on the way.

Like we said, to date we’ve used own funds, and will continue to. This is fastest, and only way we can assure direct help. We’re not leaving Bali until people are safe - especially the children. On scale of 1 to 10 the need in Bali right now is at a 12. Many have had no food for days.

The season of giving is upon us, and we cannot think of a better way to help than to give to those who have absolutely nothing as a result of this natural disaster. Every single little bit helps this effort, so whatever you can spare will be greatly appreciated!

We will update and share all we can - social media channels are coming that you can follow and see how you are making a difference!

We, along with the lovely people of Bali, thank you so much in advance.
