Studio Space Ottawa Capital Campaign
The Ottawa visual arts community has undergone much needed growth in the last few years with the expansion of several local institutions. These are indeed exciting times! Now Ottawa is about to experience even more growth that will address an on-going obstacle for many artists: the limited availability of affordable studio space. Faced with gentrification, relocation, and rising costs, finding a space to work has been a challenge. Until now.
Slated to open in the fall of 2019, Studio Space Ottawa (EST. 2019) offers working spaces for working artists. Studio Space Ottawa is a new non-profit arts organization that will provide affordable studio space for visual artists and makers at all stages of their careers. This includes the established, the mid-career, and the emerging artist. Our studios will provide a creative environment where artists can focus on their practice independently from each other, while maintaining a high level of professionalism, development, and community. We will achieve this by respecting our organization’s goals in four key categories: stability; affordability; be open to all; a health and safe work environment.
Studio Space Ottawa is located on Kaladar Avenue in a warehouse that has been home to a number of uses over the years. With over 7,000 square feet as our initial tenancy, our organization will offer secure, private, and climate controlled spaces to artists on the second level. These spaces are ideal for artists working in painting, drawing, collage, mixed media, photography, textiles, and new media. Our target goal is to expand to 10,000 square feet and occupy the main level with spaces ideal for ceramics, sculpture, welding, and stone carving as soon as possible. Our vision is for Studio Space Ottawa to become a new arts-hub in Ottawa with artists working in all types of media throughout our two levels of space.
With the goal of raising $15,000 to make Studio Space Ottawa the place for artists, we invite community members to invest in the future of affordable studio spaces in our community. Your contribution will support capital expenditures to finish outfitting the upstairs studios in time for fall occupancy, the very near-future expansion to the first floor, and start-up costs related to creating a new organization from the ground up. Your name will be included in our media campaign upon our launch, and will be included on a donor wall in our space. Your contribution will be an investment in the future of affordable studio space in your city.
