Chelsea- Road to Recovery

Chelsea & her sister Sarah, fell in love with the town of Glacier, Washington upon her first visit at 8 years old. Her grandparents Barbara and Walt purchased a modest cabin in the area for the family to enjoy, and enjoy we did. During our first visit, Kari and I immediately realized she was a nature girl, loving to hike, follow the river, collect rocks, chase butterflies, star gaze, and simply take in the beautiful mountain area with all her spirit.
After graduating from The Santa Fe University of Art & Design she wasn't sure where she wanted to live. She knew big city life with all the people, traffic, and hectic pace was not for her. Kari and I suggested she take a 6 week walk about and travel the West Coast in search of potential places to live. After returning from her trip she came to the conclusion that the Glacier area is where she wanted to start her independent life. So, she loaded up her bags and took off to Glacier to find a job. After 3 months of evaluating Bellingham and Glacier she landed on Maple Falls, a small cozy community between Bellingham (where her grandparents live) and Glacier. Being the all-in parents that Kari and I are, we decided to purchase a small home in Maple Falls to help her get started. There is absolutely no housing in the area for rent and very few homes for sale.
Chelsea and her beloved dog, Gracie, moved into her new home in Maple Falls over Thanksgiving of 2017 with the help of Kari, her Uncle Chris, and I. From the moment she moved in she radiated happiness. She was home, quickly making friends with the locals and her neighbors. This is not always easy for this shy girl. She would call us and tell us all about the great people she was meeting and how much she loved the area. Even though it wasn't the best season to move to WA. She hiked, went snowshoeing , painted, photographed the gorgeous area, learned how to live in power outages, and how to build fires in her wood stove.
Tragedy struck the night of January 20th. After eating dinner at one of her favorite restaurants she was on her way home and in a windy curve she apparently strayed out of the curve and hit a tree. For those that know the area, there are thousands upon thousands of very large trees lining the curvy roads. The impact was horrific.
This site is not about how it happened, only God has that answer. It is about celebrating a very special person that is fighting to get back on her feet. Her mother and I (and hopefully Chelsea soon) will keep you, her amazing friends and loved ones informed of her progress. Be prepared for the good and the bad, her injuries are serious and her outcome is unknown. We will be as honest and accurate as possible while also protecting Chelsea's privacy. Follow our journey along with Chelsea's sister, Sarah, her brother in-law, Joe, her nieces, Mckinley & Kennedy, her grandparents, Aunts, Uncles & cousins.

With what it was like to walk for miles for no other reason than to witness the accumulation of trees and meadows, mountains and deserts, streams and rocks, rivers and grasses, sunrises and sunsets. The experience was powerful and fundamental. It seemed to me that it had always felt like this to be a human in the wild, and as long as the wild existed it would always feel this way.”
