On October 19, 2017 Mark was taken to his local ER due to severe head and neck pain, loss of cognitive function, and fine-motor skills. A CAT scan showed a large mass on his right-frontal lobe.
The doctors determined that immediate surgery was needed. On October 20 Mark underwent surgery.
The pathology report confirmed what doctors feared: Mark had a Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). The big-daddy of brain tumors.
As though the diagnosis of a GBM weren't bad enough - pathology also showed that his type is high aggressive and Stage 4.
Since surgery and diagnosis, Mark has been unable to return to work; endured six weeks of radiation treatment; and is currently undergoing chemo therapy.
Additionally, Mark has had to be readmitted twice to the hospital for health conditions resulting from either treatment or the tumor itself.
Mark is in a battle for his life and medical expenses, including deductibles, in-network maxes, and co-pays for in-home health therapy are mounting. All while Mark is unable to work and awaiting disability status.
Twila continues to work, reduced hours, while caring for Mark's needs and getting him to and from appointments.
She has been able to find a local company that provides visiting-nurses who can help care for Mark while she runs errands, works, or gets some much needed respite for herself. This service comes with a small fee of $15-20/hr.
