Two weeks ago, doctors told our dad, Francisco Jacobo, that he had three months to live. Unfortunately, he passed away yesterday at only 57 years old.
Our world has changed in an instant.
We wanted more time with him; we needed more time with him. We thought we had so much more time with him.
We are in shock and trying to get a handle on what this loss will mean for our family. While we are grieving for our dad, we know we must be strong for our mom. Not only has she lost her husband, but also her best friend. We are her three young, strong sons, but we don’t feel very strong right now. We cannot give our mom what she needs to survive right now. After everything our mom and dad have done for us, we aren’t able to help our mom keep her home. The same home where we would drive our parents crazy.
Our mom, Maribel, works full-time at Goodwill; it’s a fantastic organization that helps lots of people in need. Right now, she is the one in need. Our mom can afford the day to day expenses for her and our brother Jason who will be starting his senior year in high school in mid-August, but with our dad passing, she won’t be able to pay the mortgage. Our mom and dad were just two years away from paying it off, and without his income, our mom is at risk of losing the house they’ve worked so hard for all these years.
We know that everyone has their own struggles and pain and we appreciate all of you taking the time to read our story. Please understand that any contribution will make a difference in the effort to pay off the remaining $35,000 mortgage.
By paying off the house, our mom and Jason will have a place to live without the stress of worrying about how to pay the mortgage in addition to grieving the loss of our father. We are incredibly grateful for all donations and no donation is too small. Together, small donations from many make the greatest impact.
As we work through the shock of our loss, we will continue to do everything we can to help our mom through this difficult time. As our parents have taught us through their own example, we will always be looking for ways to help others and pay your generosity forward in the future.
