A Single Mom's Seminary Journey

Donation protected
Spring 2014 graduation is just around the corner. But before that, I'm contending with recent unemployment, a $1,600 tuition bill and possible living expenses deficit if employment doesn't come by January 2014. Additionally, having purchased my plane ticket for the annual meeting of the Evangelical Theological Society, I attended and was able to glean valuable scholarship for my thesis and research interest. The $700 for hotel/food/misc is included in the amount I am trying to raise. My thesis is addressing a very popular concept of "God told me". I'm making a case for the sufficiency of his direct speech through Scripture but at the same time accounting honestly for the experiences that Christians encounter. I've had my teeth in this topic for awhile and hope to turn my thesis into a short popular level, user-friendly book (the manuscript is 60% complete). I'm also set to teach on this topic at DTS' Lay Institute in the Spring. More importantly, I consider this a small beginning to what hopefully will be a fruitful ministry platform. I want to engage Christians with the sufficiency of God's speech but not enrage them with unwarranted accusations. The body of Christ is divided enough.

I embarked on this seminary adventure of learning and ministry training impassioned by a desire for others to know Christ and grow in his grace. I write, think and breathe this goal, sometimes challenging but with a heart of honesty. You can check out my blog here. I also have been a contributor at Parchment and Pen theology blog for 5 years and recently started contributing to the Reformed African-American Network. The journey has not been easy but exciting at the same time. I am in faithful fellowship at a local PCA church.

I'm actively seeking employment and don't wish to freeload. But I'm also looking honestly at these needs. So I'm putting this request out to my friends and others who may want to help out this seminary student put on the black graduation robe and continue to put out some work that hopefully will be a benefit to many. Donations may be made through this system or directly to me (preferable option).
