Matthew Crittenden's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Like most 17 year-old boys, Matthew's plans for the fall included going to school, hanging out with friends, and learning to drive cars. Instead, Matt is currently at Mass General, in Boston, receiving intensive proton therapy treatment for a recently discovered tumor in his brain.

Matthew is a quiet, kind young man who loves animals, makes loyal friends, and is well-liked by everyone who knows him. While working on his grandfather's farm this past summer, he noticed some problems with the vision in his left eye. A number of tests followed, and in August Matt was diagnosed with glioma of the optic nerve. The tumor is located in such a place that both eyes are affected. By October, he had lost almost 90% of the vision in his left eye; quite a blow to a 10th grader who enjoys playing the piano and repairing broken electronic devices.

Currently, Matt's prognosis is uncertain. In an effort to slow the tumor's growth, he and his mother Lisa will spend 6 weeks living in Boston receiving therapy at Mass General. Lisa has quit her job in order to be with Matt during this treatment. His father, Ryan, will stay in Geneva, NY to continue working. Matt also has three siblings, Ryan 19, Hannah 10, and Grace 7. Throughout this ordeal, Matt's courage remains strong, and he has put his faith and confidence in God's plan for his life.

Needless to say, the medical expenses incurred by the Crittenden family are overwhelming. The out-of-pocket expense for just the 6 weeks of proton therapy alone is over $10,000.

"There should be no schism in the body, but the members should have the same care for one another. And if one member suffers, all the members suffer; or if one member is honored, all the members rejoice. Now you are the body of Christ." 1 Corinthians 12:25-27

May God richly bless you and your family.
