When Africa calls...you listen!

I was put here on this planet to serve people with developmental disabilities. I am not sure how I know this, but deep inside my heart you can see my passion sitting there, floating to the top. I am a student to their resilience, unconditional love and patience.

There was a time in America when we forgot about this population. We housed them in facilities, we used them as guinea pigs for medical experiments and shut our eyes to their souls. While I believe that we have come steps forward, I am committed to taking them a million steps ahead. Hand in hand I will walk with this population towards the dawning of an era in which they are regarded, admired and included. In May 2014 I will graduate with a Masters In Social Work.

In September of 2014, I will be traveling to Kenya to do volunteer work with children and adults who have developmental disabilities. The culture in Africa does not recognize people with disabilities. They are still shunned and are living behind closed doors. My intent is to assist with public education, volunteering to raise awareness and education. If we are ever to achieve inclusion, we need to start one family at a time.

I am seeking any amount of donation to assist with me getting there. It would make me so happy to have my communities support in changing lives abroad. Fear not, I am also doing this to deepen my love for this population, myself and our world. I will be coming back stronger and more committed then ever to do this work.
