Bring Her Home by the Holidays! Valerie's favorite time of year!

Hi this is Anita Ressler and Missy Spurlock sharing this story of tragedy, compassion & need for our best friend Denise Cook and her family.

Valerie's Story
Home for good and by the Holidays is the goal. We have been wanting to reach out and help our best friend Denise and her family to simply bring her mom Valerie home for good to Denise & Darin's not so handicap accessible home. We just didn't know how. We believe we've found a way through this awesome gofundme site. Goals/Needs are listed at the end of story.

As most of you know and have been praying for Denise's mom Valerie "“ a loving mother, wife, sister, friend and hard working woman (at Hattie Larlham) who's story is nothing more then a miracle. She was recovering remarkably at a rehab facility in late January from an accident (broken hip/shoulder). After only about a week after surgery Valerie was getting around without using even a walker. Then the unthinkable happened a few days later "“ she suffered a catastrophic brain aneurysm and time was of the essence for treatment. Without getting into to many painful details, she unfortunately had to much time pass undiagnosed and untreated. She spent weeks in ICU where she was labeled the sickest patient in the hospital with not a lot of hope. With this and complications suffered it has left her mom profoundly physically disabled needing total care. She is cognitively normal beyond belief. Most people's worst nightmare to be cognitive and trapped in your body "“ not Valerie, She never complains "“ It is a blessing how far she's coming. They have always had a strong faith in God and know ultimately He is in control and we believe He led us to this gofundme site that a friend had used to help in her own situation. An opinion is that Denise's family could have most likely pursued legal action but her Faith & heart pulled her in a different direction to trust that God will provide. We pray they will be blessed for this "“ with all our help!

Exhausting as it is, Over the last 10 months Denise, along with her extremely supportive sister Pam, brother Mike and their dad have been diligently taking turns 7 days a week since the accident/aneurysm giving her mom the best care possibly while she has had to stay at a nursing home and until they can get her to Denise and Darin's home. She was hospitalized for months with very little hope given. She has had multiple surgeries including 2 brain (1 to clip the aneurysms and 1 to remove a large piece of skull bone to relieve pressure) a trachea, feeding tube, and she's fought through infections, pneumonia, vassal spasm & stroke. She's a fighting miracle. The Lord is not done with her yet. The trache has been removed and she's eating and drinking as her family has advocated every step of the way for her. She's now pretty healthy, with hopefully many years ahead of her "“ but will require 24/7 care. Who is ever ready for this? Denise, Darin, their family, brother Mike & sister Pam and their dad have lovingly embraced this responsibility and always had 1 goal - to bring her home. She's had great medical treatment in the hospital, HAD great insurance through Spring. She now has to pay out of pocket for it personally (very expensive). Her medical bills are well over $1,000,000 and continue to rise. She can not afford to stay at the facility much longer without the system stepping in and stripping them of what little they have left for her long term care. With her mom's sweet positive personality, loving spirit and humor are still so evident it makes it easy to want to help her. She's communicated more and more everyday. When Denise recently asked her mom why she never complains she whispered in her soft voice "Life is too short" and paused and "What good would it do?"

Something that weighs heavy on us is that Denise has said more then once that a thought that goes through her mind constantly "Her family has been blessed and have tried to live their lives helping others-but she is haunted that she is unable to help her own mom simply come home because they don't have all the resources/finances to make it happen. What a helpless feeling. They have contacts/contractors to use but everything takes time and money. They've moved their daughter Katie upstairs temporarily and started a makeover on a private basement bedroom that's accessible to the garage. They are not able to finish it yet.

If you know their family they have always sacrificed to help take care of others "“ family, friend or strangers. Denise and her family have always helped others and never expect anything in return. Personally Denise & Darin's family have suffered hardships and illnesses over the years then most handle in many lifetimes. But they always focus to bring help and dignity to those they care for and make the best out of all situations. They often have over extended their selves time wise and financially. In addition Denise always has helped both of our families during our families cancer battles, death and hardships. Where there was a need with our families Denise and her family always stepped right up, taking care of my (Anita) elderly in laws up until their deaths - treating them like her own parents, going to cancer treatments, grocery shopping, just sheer companionship during difficult times. Personally for me (Missy) during my difficult time with Jeff's illness and huge fundraiser I felt it was as if God sends her to the ones that needed her most. She knows just what to do and say to comfort all of us:. Some say/joke that Denise isn't happy unless she's helping make someone or making someone's life easier: This is so true. Denise and her family have organized/hosted/raised thousands of dollars for many people in need over the years. This was in addition to her working, raising their family, taking care of Darin's dad and now both her parents.
This is now our way of giving back to her and her family for their years of always giving to others.

Please, please help without judging their situation if you can "“ they would for you. You can make a personal or business donation (anonymous) through this safe secure site if you'd like. No amount is too little. If you can not financially help, please pass along to anyone that may be able too. You may know someone who can make a difference! They have people available to go forward with finishing plans that they have to make life easier for her mom to come home. The goal is to raise enough funds to put in an accessible bathroom, adaptable bedroom, needed updates, accessibility to other parts of the house, care, supplies, equipment (not covered by insurance) and relieve some of the financial stress they need to help her mom live in a safe accessible home that anyone of our parents or family deserves. Please help bring her mom home and help Denise and Darin's family get back to a new normal life that they desire. We have no doubt that they will pay it back for years to come. That is what they do.

God Bless
