Moses Sponsorship Fund

Donación protegida
While in Uganda this week I met a young boy named Moses. Moses is about 9 years old and he lives on the street in Kisenyi slum in Kampala.

These slums are filled with "street children" who do not have homes and literally sleep in the mud and garbage filled alleys. These children range from all ages, they walk the streets picking through garbage for food, they wear the same torn clothing everyday, have no access to medical help, no education, no food/shelter, and no parents to help them.

Many of these boys walk around with empty plastic bottles
filled with cloth and thread that they use to inhale fuel/paint/glue fumes to get high (pictured below). Many of the girls are forced into prostitution either by their parents or out of a need to feed themselves. The kids are beaten by police as they walk through the slums at night hoping to bring the boys into the children's prison.

While I was in the slum to bring food and medical supplies to the street kids, I was approached by Moses. Among the many other boys who were pushing and shoving, inhaling fumes, and even breaking out into fist fights; Moses was very soft spoken and sweet. He held my hand the entire time as we walked through the slum, asking me my name and where I'm from.

While we were walking Moses turned to me and said, "PJ I want to go to school. Can you please take me to school? Please....I don't want to be here anymore. Please..."

I then realized how desperate these children were, as our American children his age would love to not go to school, Moses was begging me for the opportunity to get an education and get him out of the slum. It broke my heart to have nothing to give this kid, and the next few days I could not stop thinking about him. Trying to sleep on the plane home I couldn't get him out of my head.

So I have decided to sponsor Moses. I am going to sponsor him now and get him out of the slums, and I am trying to raise $1,800 to help keep him out. That $1,800 will send Moses to boarding school for 3 years, where he will have food, shelter, medical attention, and education. This young boy looked at me and begged me for an opportunity to have a real life, to not starve day to day, sleep on piles of garbage, and inevitably turn to alcohol and drugs (inhaling fumes) as a way to get by until he is dead or in prison.

So I am asking all of my friends and family for help. Any help that you can provide would make a world of difference for Moses. Please feel free to forward this along to anybody you know who might be interested in helping. I am also partnering with my company Velocity Sports Performance to offer reward levels for donations, however you can make donations of any amount that you like. Unfortunately these rewards will only be available to those in the Southern California area so they can be redeemed at our center (Sorry!). I thank you all in advance for your donations, and for your thoughts and prayers with young Moses and all of these poor kids living a life that is unimaginable until you see it first hand.

Thank you.
