HELP ME RAISE MONEY FOR BOOK SCHOLARSHIPS!

It's my BIRTHDAY, and I want to raise money and give BACK! As I approach 36 years of age, my goal is to raise $3,600 to give away seven $500 College Book Scholarships. COLLEGE ACCESS and SUCCESS is very important to me. With the closing of a program that I held near and dear to my heart, I thought what better way to serve and celebrate!

Once the $3,600 goal is met, I will pull together a small committee to create an application to administer to the community. The same committee will help me select the students who will be recipients of the scholarships. The scholarships will be cut directly to the school for the Fall 2014 academic semester. IF WE GO OVER THE GOAL, ALL FUNDS RAISED IN THIS ACCOUNT WILL BE USED TO OFFER MORE SCHOLARSHIPS TO MORE STUDENTS. :)

Every dollar counts!

***Contributions are NOT tax deductible.
***Preference will be given to Fall 2014 first year students that reside in the City of Milwaukee.

Who is this JohnRae' Stowers person?!

JohnRae' A. Stowers currently serves as the Academic Services Coordinator at Marquette University. In this capacity, she assists students on academic probation with creating a plan for "academic success." She refers and/or provides services that range from Study Skills, Time Management, Note-taking, Tutoring, Test-taking Strategies and referrals to the Writing Center, Career Services, and the Counseling Center. She serves from 100-200 students a semester. In her short time with the university, she has become a part of the Committee on Academic Procedures (CAPS), the Diversity Committee, and the Student Affairs Assessment Committee. She has become involved with a team that will be working to assist undocumented students at the university.

Of additional notable recognition, she is the past State Director of College Readiness, a college access program that was administered by the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU) formally the Wisconsin Foundation for Independent Colleges and Universities (WFIC).

JohnRae' has over 17 years of pre-college, college preparation and success experience. During her tenure with College Readiness, she oversaw all aspects of the program and played an intricate role in making sure that all of the students- regardless of ethnicity or socio-economic status had the necessary resources and tools to be successful.

JohnRae' created a program that was expandable and one in which students felt connected- like family. With JohnRae's leadership, College Readiness, a program that started with 65 students in 2005 ended (due to funding) with a program that served close to 500 students statewide in 2011. In addition to expanding, the program held a 98% retention rate for students from year to year. This was in large part due to the family culture and high expectations for behavior, academics, and commitment.

JohnRae's dedication to college access and success did not stop there. Within College Readiness, she restructured and developed the programs' curriculum and layout, initiated and produced the Student Leadership Team, Graduation Ceremony, and Career Showcase, created the College Coach/Mentoring & Tutoring Program, as well as, but not limited to, organized and created partnerships for college tours/visits, fundraisers, Summer Institute (a week-long college residential experience), and College Explosion (a city-wide college fair). These efforts led to College Readiness students having a 100% high school graduation rate and 86% of those students matriculating on to college.

JohnRae' holds a Master's degree in Student Personnel Administration/Counseling from Concordia University-Wisconsin. She is a graduate of the Mid-America Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (MAEOPP) Emerging Leaders Institute, MOSAIC Milwaukee Partnership Program, Cardinal Stritch University- African American Leadership Program, and has a bachelor's from the University of WI-Parkside. She has a Certificate of Management from MRA- Institute of Management.

She has served as a Board Member of Empower Our Youth and a member of the Boys & Girls Club Youth Advisory Council. She was previously employed as an Upward Bound Counselor at Marquette University and she served as an Admissions Counselor/Minority Recruiter at the University of WI-Parkside. She has been an adjunct instructor for Marquette University's "“ CommUNITY program, Bryant & Stratton College, and Concordia University. She is the past "Transition to College" instructor for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee's Graduation Plus- Stein Scholar Program.

JohnRae's passion is to educate youth and adults on the college admission process and assisting them in making informed decisions that will lead to college success-a degree. This in turn will impact the business/economic development in Milwaukee. She has presented at community organizations, national conferences, and schools. Her goal is truly to help students become aware and accountable for the decisions they make!

JohnRae' has been a part of PCAS (Partnership for College Access and Success), KnowHow2Go, National College Access Network (NCAN), National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and others.

She is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. where she serves as the Historian, RHOer Club Recruitment Coordinator, and Buds of Spring Committee member for the Iota Psi Sigma Alumni Chapter. JohnRae' is also a Charter member of the Omicron Alpha Chapter at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, WI.
Last but certainly not least, JohnRae' is the owner- since May 2011, of a small business- JazzyRae' Jewels & Accessories. With this new venture, she has sponsored various events in the community such as the Buds of Spring Pageant (mentoring program for girls 12-17) with Sigma Gamma Rho, UnWined (a scholarship program for Phi Beta Sigma and Zeta Phi Beta) and many others.

JohnRae' is the wife of Charles and the mother of two girls- Amari (11) and Zyan (6).
