Fight For Life Lymphoma Awareness

There is never a good time for cancer. It depletes, it destroys and it leaves families desperately needing support from friends, families and charities. The financial devastation of cancer treatment, the loss of wages, the mental and physical strain on the individual with cancer and their family is overwhelming. To all that have experienced this devastation will understand. As a mother it’s against the rules of nature to see your children have to fight for survival even before they have just started their life journey. They should be finishing college, getting married, starting a family and looking forward to a future. Right now I ask my friends, family, colleagues and anyone who has fought this battle to please read my daughter and soon to be son in laws story. Right before Christmas they found a mass in my soon to be son in laws chest. He was given a diagnosis no one ever wants to hear especially right before Christmas. Cory wrote this to his friends and family: “I have spent the better part of the last month going through many tests and scans and on December 7th I was diagnosed with cancer. Non Hodgkins Lymphoma to be specific. Today I had a bone marrow biopsy and had a port implanted into my chest for chemotherapy. My amazingly supportive Fiance and both our families, have been with me every step of the way and with the continued support I fully expect to beat this shit. For all my homies out there, don't try and be tuff guys and get to the doctor to be checked from time to time. I thought I had a pulled muscle and told myself it would go away. If it wasn't for Haley insisting I go to the doctor, who knows how long I would have let this go. I asked Haley the love of my life to marry me this time last year. Instead of planning our wedding we are planning cancer treatments and remission. Cancer is not something you can fight alone.” After two rounds of chemo, fevers, low blood counts, loss of work and medical expenses I am reaching out for help for my daughter and soon to be son in law. One chemo cycle treatment is $33,000 of which $5,000 is Cory and Haley’s out of pocket expense per year. Haley has taken numerous days of work off unpaid to support Cory at all his doctor’s appointments, chemo treatments and follow up appointments. She has been a true matriarch in supporting Cory’s treatment. Our hope is to get Cory into remission as soon as possible so they can move on to a bright future together.
