50th Birthday Donations to Portsmouth Careleavers

Donation protected
It is my 50th Birthday on Thursday 7th January

I really did not think I would get this far. I was a product of the care system and this and other childhood experience left me damaged and lost.

There are many lost and confused care leavers I want to use my birthday to support Flying Solo  who support Portsmouth Care Leavers.

Please read a selection of my story and why I want to help

(me as a very young child)

Social services were there from the day I was born. My Mum was also a care leaver and I eventually went to the same children's home my mum left.

I first went into foster care at 3 years old and again when I was 5years old. It was at the age of 9 that the big split started.  The damage this caused has lasted a lifetime and the impact of this is only truly understood by care leavers that have experienced the loss of their family and siblings

(Me an my siblings just before the split started)

My childhood experiences  catapulted my life into a trail of disaster and this included spells in Prison, Drug Addiction and a real struggle to form healthy relationships. I was lucky to find support in Prison and started to understand my past and find a way to come to terms with this.

(Me in the year 2000 about to start a 4 year prison sentence)

I was so lucky that after finding support in Prison I was able to rebuild a relationship with my brother Dave. Dave like me spent, time in children's homes. We had many chats about it and Dave became a role model, I wanted to be like the man he had become

(Me and Dave)

Sadly I lost Dave 7 years ago to cancer and I would have loved to have shared my 50th with him.

Dave was proud of all that I had achieved and this is another reason why I have set up this page.

If we were not in yet another COVID lockdown I would have been celebrating with a huge party. I know many reading this would have attended.

You may have bought a card, maybe a gift and you would defiantly have bought me a beer or two .

I ask you all to consider donating what you think you may have spent to this charity that is close to mine and many other care leavers in Portsmouth

Final word is that I will be planning an extra special 51st as im not done yet

Lots of love to you all and thank you
