5050 for Locker #505

Tax deductible
On October 24th I will be tackling my furthest race yet. I'll be running the Kansas Rails to Trails 100 miler. While this race has been on my mind for a few years and I have been training for over a year, I want this race to be bigger than me. After taking some time to think about what this race could mean, I decided that I wanted to raise money for a local organization--Locker #505.

I wanted to help an organization that helps kids in a tangible way. After reading about Locker #505, and the impact they have on raising kids' self-esteem to make attending school just a little easier, I knew this was the place I wanted to partner with. Locker #505 gives less fortunate kids a private "shopping" experience where they get to try on clothes, find new or gently used clothes that truly fit them and make them feel comfortable so that when they go to school they can focus more on class than on how they look or what people think of their clothes that may otherwise not fit or be comfortable.

After learning even more about this organization I learned that this summer they were broken into and most of their sneakers were stollen. This connected with me and my passion for running and fitness. I reached out the Locker #505 and asked them if all of the money I raised by racing could be used to buy shoes and they loved this idea.

So this is the plan. I want to raise $5050 by asking all of you to "adopt" a mile or two. What this will look like: Mile One, donate one dollar.... Mile 72, donate 72 dollars. All of the money raised will go directly to Locker #505 and I am so excited to see just how many shoes we can give to kids in our community.

Locker #505: Student's Clothing Bank: they clothe students in need from Kindergarten through 12th grade throughout Bernalillo County. Students are referred by school staff or first responders to receive services. Each student receives a minimum of two outfits, 4 pairs of new socks and underwear, new shoes and a coat according to the season. They also receive school supplies, hygiene items, books and toys. We also provide clothing for special events like prom, school concerts or other events.
