Ever since I was a little girl, I always dreamed of being a singer. Much to the dismay of my older sister, I would sing around the house for all of my waking hours. When I was about seven years old, I heard a song by Giacomo Puccini, called Nessun Dorma and I instantly fell in love with classical music. Obviously at seven, I did not understand or know the song, because it was in Italian, so I made up words to go along with the melody, to sound like I was singing in Italian. I was so proud of myself, I even went to school, and sang my “new song” for my music teacher. She said she didn’t know I could sing in Italian, but much to her surprise, I told her I made up the words.

My teacher contacted my mother and offered to give me singing lessons. It was one of the happiest days of my life. For the past six years, I have been taking singing lessons, and participating in school and private choruses. I have also donated countless hours of my time singing at local events, nursing homes, political events, private parties, and even a couple weddings! I don’t ask anything in return, because the reward for me is being able to do what I love. Normally, I’m a shy person but when I am on a stage performing, I feel like there’s no place I’d rather be.

A few months ago on a whim, I submitted an application to a very prestigious summer program for classical musicians. The program is called Boston University at Tanglewood Institute, and it is located in the Berkshire Mountains, right outside of Lenox, Massachusetts. Tanglewood is the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. While I love classical music, it probably isn’t a surprise to most people that I don’t have many friends who share my passion. The countless hours of practicing I’ve put in over the last few years have been rewarding, but I sometimes get lonely and don’t have anyone my age to share my love of music with. When I received an acceptance letter from BUTI, I was overwhelmed with excitement. A summer with other kids who share my unique interest is a dream come true. While the camp will be an amazing opportunity for me, it is very costly. I’ve always donated my time and I’ve never never asked anything in return. If anyone would be willing to donate or invest in my future, while I can’t pay you back for your generosity, whether it is one dollar, or many, when I return in late August this year, I plan put to good use all the skills I will learn this summer, and record a Christmas CD. All donors will receive a complimentary CD, that will be ready just prior to this Christmas Season.

I would be more than happy to take song requests in the comments!

Thank you in advance for your generosity! Any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at [email redacted].
