In January of this year, Becca Proulx and I shared the most amazing 6 weeks of our lives with the wonderful smiling faces of House of Peace Children's Home in Embakasi, Kenya through International Volunteer Headquarters and Networks for Voluntary Services.
Being the first volunteers at the home, we had a lot of ground to cover and endless opportunities to better the lives of the children living there.
In our time there, we were able to enroll all 30 of our kids into a proper government school, fully equipped with new school uniforms, shoes, bags, textbooks, and all their necessary school supplies. It was an amazing accomplishment, but it took a lot of our own funding with some help from family and friends and unfortunately only took care of one year.
Since we have been back in Canada we have been saving money to go back again. We are heading back out at the beginning of December, just in time for a new school year to begin and would love to be able to provide the kids with what they need for the upcoming year.
This time we are going to be staying quite a bit longer, and while last time most of our focus went to the children's education, we would really like to be able to make some big improvements around the home this time as well.
We are taking this on on our own, and with the cost of flights and living in Kenya for 5 months, it is a lot to pay for. We are putting all of our time, effort and funding possible into this home, and would so so greatly appreciate any help you are able to share with these wonderful kids. Because we are doing everything on our own, we are able to make sure all of the money goes exactly where it should, and can even let you know what your donation goes towards.
These are the most amazing kids we have ever met. They are all soo loving and kind and incredibly responsible and hard working. They all made every day we spent together so fun and rewarding and we are so beyond excited to get to see them again. They are by far the happiest and most appreciative people we have ever met, and every kind gesture means the world to them. We can't wait to see them grow up and do amazing things with their lives. Please help us to help these kids follow their dreams!
