(Harvard Hands On Program-Workforce Development)
"My name is Alicia Wilson and I am 23 years old. I came into the G.E.D program with a goal to achieve my G.E.D by March and I did it!  I stayed focused, and believed in my heart I could do it. Trust me it was a journey, with a lot of obstacles in my way.   I have 4 kids and custody of my 3 nieces. It's a lot of responsibilities having a big family like mine. I was out of class for 2 months due to daycare and being back and forth to the hospital. I missed a lot of days. I studied hard on my part at home, and left the rest up to God. My boyfriend helped and encouraged me with my studies, and was right there with me on those late nights to 1 and 2 am. He told me 'you want it you have to sacrifice'. That being said I had a lot of sleepless nights. I get up every morning at 6:00 am to get my kids ready for school. So I was tired. Overall, I did it and I loved my experience at Harvard Hands On. I felt my teachers [Mrs. Eugene and Mr. Boyd] really cared about us getting our GED. They made sure we understood things before we moved on. They always tried to help and were very friendly and easy to talk to. I love this Center even the lady at the front desk was nice. The cook lady [Mrs. Hailey] was always encouraging and invited us for meals. She also told it like it is her and Ms. Michelle. This was a wonderful experience and I thank everyone for their support."

Note: Ms. Wilson scored beyond the average for passing  the GED Test --scoring a 320 in Language Arts! She also did extremely well in the other GED requirements scoring 163 in Social Studies, 159 in Science, and 158 in Math.  Bravo to her...she did not give up!

I really enjoyed the event, it was great!!!! I felt protected from all the Cleveland Police officers too. Great to bring this to the neighborhood that I grew up in and still love. Looking forward to the next event in August.

(Senior Connection Program)
Ms. Saundra Anderson has been a member of the Senior Connection program for eight years.  Ms. Anderson said,  "The program helps me keep my mind off my health problems, and my head aches. I take advantage of the monthly health screenings and frequent exercise classes."  Ms. Anderson stated the health screenings were instrumental saving the life of one of the Senior Connection members; --- who's blood pressure was so high that she had to be immediately rushed to the hospital. The member's life was saved due to the health screenings offered at the Harvard Community Services Center-- she had no idea her blood pressure was at a life threatening level. Ms. Anderson said she also enjoys the guest speakers that provide information about medical issues.

In 2018, the Harvard Community Services Center will celebrate 50 years of community service.  HCSC is passionate about our work and will enjoy serving the community for another 50 plus years.

Consequently, due to recent severe funding cuts through the state and federal government, many of the Harvard Community Services Center programs and services are in jeopardy of being non-existent.

HCSC has been a beacon of hope in the community, and we are asking for 1000 friends to donate $50.00 to help us continue providing services and programs for the community.  Our goal is $50,000 before the December 30, 2017 annual appeal.  Is there any reason you would not help us reach our goal?

On behalf of the board and staff of the Harvard Community Services we thank you in advance for your donation. In appreciation, each individual that donates a gift  of $50, will receive a "2018 HCSC Calendar magnet".

The Harvard Community Services Center will recieve all gifts great and small. We thank you in advance.

Sincerely and with much love
