George Maurer's "50 Across Iceland"

Hello friends!  I'm officially two months away from my next ride for a cure for cancer, this time a four week long ride across the nation of Sri Lanka, with a Siberian-Russian bicyclist that I met in Iceland last summer on the 3rd Annual Carolyn Held Memorial Bike Ride.  What a cultural explosion this ride is going to be!

First of all, I want to thank all of you for your support of 50Across Iceland last summer.  With your help, you helped fund my camping and food expenses for a 1200km long, five week long bicycle adventure across the country of Iceland, so that we could raise another $8,000 towards cancer research at Mayo Clinic.

Ever since I began these bike rides, starting with a 3600 mile, 48 day long solo bike ride across the USA in 2014, we have raised over $38,000 for cancer research.  As always, I deeply appreciate your willingness to support these rides, which I intend to make every summer.

51 Across Sri Lanka

I'm bicycling across an entire country once again, in memory of my good friend and mentor, Carolyn Held (an adventure bicyclist, herself) who died of cancer in 2012), and once again, I am asking for your help in covering my food and lodging expenses.

I've already bought my plane tickets, am outfitted for the journey, and have begun my training.  My expected food and shelter will cost around $50 a day, and so I am seeking donations totaling $1500 to help cover these extra costs, as I take two months off from making a living as a musician to challenge myself and challenge others to give to cancer research.

You can either donate directly to my GoFundMe campaign, or you can also have me come present and perform at your church, school or organization as a way of helping me reach my goal.  Please feel free to contact me here if you are interested a George Maurer presentation.

I'd like to be fully funded for this meaningful journey by June 1st.

Sri Lanka is going to present different challenges than any of my other adventures, namely in the form of 13 species of poisonous snakes to avoid, tarantulas the size of a human head, wild monkeys, and wild elephants that tend to charge you when you least expect it (oh, my).  Throw in the fact that I'll be bicycling during monsoon season, and you have a recipe for a number of daily challenges (which I look forward to) that I expect to encounter as I ride across Sri Lanka.

Each one of these adventures have been incredibly meaningful, life-changing physical, mental, and internal challenges for me, but they have been worthwhile challenges as they have taught me how to face difficulties in my life as well as to better appreciate the planet we all share.

Thanks to all of you who have donated either directly to my daily needs for food and shelter, or who have donated directly to the Carolyn Held Memorial at the Mayo.

I will be posting a daily video and picture journal of my ride through the interior and around the circumference of Sri Lanka.  Please follow me either on Facebook or at .

Thank you in advance for your donation!
