~ Love for Lauren ~

My precious 13-year-old cousin, Lauren LaFontaine, was diagnosed in May 2013 with a rare form of cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma. We are using this site to allow friends, family and other supporters to pour love on Lauren both with words of encouragement, as well as donations to help cover her medical expenses and make life more comfortable for her.

Lauren started experiencing pain in her left calf in April 2013. Initially, her doctor assumed it was just a strained muscle, but after weeks of increasing pain and extreme swelling, it was evident that something else was wrong. After many tests and days of waiting anxiously with stress and worry, Lauren and her family learned the devastating confirmation of Lauren's cancer.

Lauren started chemotherapy on June 10th and has been in and out of the hospital on a regular basis since then for treatments and complications resulting from those treatments. In September, the doctors performed surgery to remove part of the bone in her leg containing the cancer, and replaced it with a cadaver bone. Unfortunately, they were not able to remove all of the cancer, so radiation treatments will be necessary. Between chemotherapy and radiation, Lauren will be in and out of the hospital for cancer treatments until the spring of 2014. She has a long road ahead to battle this cancer, but she is a brave little girl and she WILL conquer!
