Hello Everyone,
My name is Luna Colozzo, and I am a junior at Winchester High School in Winchester, Massachusetts.
On January 4, 2018 my best friend Emely Mendez-Gonzalez was hospitalized. Her parents heard a loud sound come from her room on Thursday and they went to check and found on the floor not breathing, her dad performed CPR while her brother called the ambulance. Luckily she began breathing after. She has still been in the hospital since then, including on her birthday which was the fifth. The duration of her stay at the hospital is continuous until doctors discover what caused her to stop breathing.
Her family has been going through a lot and struggled financially over the past three years. On January 1, 2018 all of the plumbing pipes had frozen then exploded leaving them with no water or heating and a completely damaged basement and kitchen. They cannot go back to their home until it is repaired.
My mom worked all hours of the day when it was just my mom and I, and the Gonzalez Family never thought twice of looking after me after school and on the weekends when my mom worked. They are the hardest working people, and have never asked for help financially. Even through this current situation they haven’t asked for financial help, which is why I am here today.
Emely has recently been accepted into Northeastern in which she hopes attend this coming fall. The medical bills, the amount of money to repair their home and the student loan they’ll need to take out soon, is a lot to bear in a short amount of time.Although they personally won’t ask for financial help, I’d like to help them out the same way they helped my mom and I. Anything would mean the absolute world to her family and would get them back on their feet.
