January 6, 2010 - 8 years ago today Devan was diagnosed (officially) with Autism. Kev & I knew long before we were told by a developmental pediatrician that he had Autism. We knew! No one listened but we knew. “He is a boy” - this is what one of the most well known pediatricians in Atlanta kept telling us. WE KNEW!
Devan is now 11 years old. We have spent $100’s of thousands of dollars advocating, healing & educating our son. Devan still struggles with things that majority of 5-7 year olds have mastered. Devan also surprises me everyday with all the new things he learns.
My favorite things are the things I learn from Devan daily. He teaches me patience when I need it most. He teaches me to put others first bc he needs my assistance. He has taught to me to keep going no matter what bc that is what he does everyday. Devan is #BEingSOMEBODY everyday.
My boy is not your typical 11 year old 5th grade boy BUT he loves any kind of ball, throwing, catching, jumping, running, chasing, etc... he loves to be around other kids. Swimming in the pool or ocean or jumping on the trampoline - this where Devan is most happy. Oh yeah & playing on his iPad.
We have already had a long journey. It’s exhausting but as long as he keeps going & pushing we will do the same. We started a GoFundMe a few years ago. It has grown grown quite a bit over the years. I’ve started a new one bc it needed to be updated bc times change. Devan’s Autism never stops & we not stop either.
