As you may know, the last few years for the Dickens family have been trying. Bob and Karen have faced many things in their lives, but in January 2012 they were confronted with the unimaginable. On the day they expected to welcome their 10th grandchild to the world, they were instead left to pick-up the pieces of a broken daughter, a grieving family, and plan for a burial.
Hope Dickens Herdeman was taken by Our Lord before she had a chance to say hello. And her silence will be with the Dickens family until our own last days.
This has not only been an emotional journey, but a financial one as well. Of course Bob and Karen did what any parent would do by providing the necessary arrangements so our Hope could be rightfully buried. The last step in this process -- and the first step to real closure -- is the grave marker. We want to help them pay for it. We're asking the extended family and community that has been so amazing and strong for us throughout this struggle for one last show of support.
My parents have no idea what Mike and I are up too -- and let's hope they don't hurt us for asking for help! Bob may be the oldest Dickens in the family, but I wouldn't want to test him! We want to recoup some of their cost for this unfortunate life event. My father, a recent retiree after working at Penske for over 30 years, and my mother, a PG County school board employee for almost 25 years, live on a fixed income - like most of us. We are asking if you can donate $5, $20, $100 or whatever your heart can do - it will be extremely appreciated. I understand it's the holiday season and everyone's budget is tight so anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated!
