Mona's Fight For Survival

Donativo protegido

Mona is a happy 35 year young lady who had the flu one day and was in critical condition fighting for her life the next. Desperate to stay together by her side at Stanford hospital, this family of 5 from Nevada needs immediate assistance. Can you help?

I am the brother of my happy 35 year young sister, Mona. I am appealing to the community to help support my parents through a heartbreaking family crisis. They have the weight of the world on their shoulders right now and whatever help you can offer to lessen that financial load will go farther than you might know.

On December 24, our precious Mona went to bed feeling a little unwell. On Christmas day she was rushed to the emergency room due to shortness of breath. Our family was in shock. She was diagnosed with pneumonia and her organs began shutting down faster than the doctors could help her so she was put into an induced coma. As her health declined, we were told she would have to be flown to Stanford hospital in California for treatment as soon as possible as she needed specialized care. Once stabilized, she was flown to Stanford for the team of doctors there to diagnose and assess her condition.

It has now been confirmed that Mona has double pneumonia, influenza A and sepsis in addition to MRSA infection. While her body has the ability to wake in this particular induced coma, she has not yet. The doctors expressed to us that Mona is now the most critical patient they have under care at Stanford hospital. Due to her fragile state, special equipment was needed to keep her alive such as ECMO (extracorporeal life support). She is also on a dialysis machine and may need further life-saving treatments. Her heart is also very weak. She remains in critical condition and it’s expected she will be at Stanford hospital for an extended period of time. Mona is happy, positive young lady who always has a smile on her face.

This situation is a complete shock to everyone and we are in disbelief, hoping we can stay by her side to give her every ounce of our strength. I remember one day I was baking cookies for a family gathering and I left them in a little too long. They came out hard as rocks and when she saw them she started laughing out loud hysterically. I remember her holding my hand and telling me "that's okay, at least you tried". Mona is the sunshine of our family. She loves coloring and painting. She's always ready to help others and gives the biggest hugs with the sweetest smiles.

Around the clock our entire family is devoted to remaining beside her. But we don’t live near Stanford. You can imagine the financial burden this would put on a family - especially as her medical expenses continue to grow.

We want to give her the best medical attention possible to help get her back to the fun caring sister and daughter we love and know. Our family would appreciate any help during this critical time. Please keep Mona in your thoughts.
