Study and Community Service in Greece

This fundraiser is to allow me to study and serve for one semester in Thessaloniki, Greece. I would be taking courses on Greek culture, animal welfare, child development, and Greek language.
My favorite part about the program, though is that I would get the opportunity to participate in service projects in Thessaloniki that benefit the community. I would get to mentor and tutor homeless and at-risk youth, volunteer with organizations that support endangered animals, assist veterinarians on a farm, teach english to high school students, and teach kindergarteners about environmental responsibility and sustainability.
As part of this program, I would be implementing a service project back in St. Petersburg that relates to my service abroad. I have talked to administrators at an elementary school in St. Pete, and we have designed a program that would allow me and a few other Eckerd students to create a garden on their school campus with 3rd-5th graders; teaching them how to grow their own food, live and eat sustainably, as well as giving them healthy foods that they've grown themselves to add to the cafeteria menu. We will also be teaching small unit on Greek mythology in 5th grade history class. 5th grade teachers at the elementary school in Thessaloniki have also agreed to starting a pen pal program between their students and the fifth graders in St. Pete.
$15,000 would cover study abroad fees, airfare and travel expenses, tuition at Perrotis College in Thessaloniki, food, and even a two-day, one-night hike up Mt. Olympus and a trip to Athens to visit the Acropolis and the Hellenic Parliament.
I would greatly appreciate any donation to this trip; going abroad has been a dream and a goal for a long time, and this program is absolutely perfect for me. It would be an amazing experience for me and I would be able to support two communities through service. Thank you for your support!
