My name is Naomi Westlake and I am 16 years old. I am
currently a student at Overton Grange School, Sutton, and my school is taking
part in the Project India scheme hosted by a not-for-profit division called Adventure Lifesigns in the summer of 2014.
The programme takes individuals from across UK schools and sends them to Tirunelveli in Southern India for three weeks every summer. During the three weeks, the individuals work in a team alongside local craftsmen with the aim of providing long-term infrastructure to people in need. Next summer, we will be focusing on the needs of the elderly in Tirunelveli and will be building a residential care facility for those who have no family support. Presently, they live on the street and pay to sleep in local people's doorways. In order to participate in the programme, I will have to learn lots of new skills, as well as fundraise a minimum of £2200 by May 2014.
To fundraise for this, I am doing a sponsored swim of 3500m in less than 2 hours, which is the equivalent of the width of the Krishnaraja Sagar Reservoir which provides the water for this region.
I really hope that you will feel that this is a worthwhile venture, and that you will sponsor me to help me reach my target.
