Leyte & Bohol Fund, Philippines

Emergency donations needed please.

2 emergency situations within days of each other!!! The aftermath of typhoon Hainan in Leyte and Samar is desperate. We and many others have family missing and those accounted for have no food, medicine, power and communications. In our family's village nearly all houses have lost their roof. More rain is expected from a new low forming south of the Philippines.

Food and building materials suppliers have closed their shops having made the choice to provide for themselves first.

Media is not reporting the full extent of the problem. Looting and crime is escalating and the extend of the disaster area is enormous compared to the emergency aid reaching the island.

Tonight we have sent a first off donation of 10,000 pesos (see receipt below) to assist with food, medicine and ferry tickets for those who need to evacuate to Cebu.

Bohol Quakes

The October earthquakes in Bohol affected many communities. While Cebu is popular and well known, some of the most affected areas are home to relatively remote communities on the island of Bohol. Many homes, buildings and schools have been destroyed and due to the geographical nature of the island are cut off from outside assistance. The scale and delivery of aide in the Philippines is not comparable to more developed countries. Maribojoc has been isolated as a result of the national highway and bridge into the town being damaged (see photos)

I am a Filipina living in Australia. My husband and I lived on Bohol for 2 years and have a number of friends who have been reaching out for assistance since this disaster. We are asking for support to build temporary classrooms at St Vincents Institute in Maribojoc and to assist those experiencing personal hardship. As can be seen from the photos, the school was destroyed in the quake and will take many months to rebuild.

Foreign dollars go a lot further in the Philippines. Any donation however large or small will make a difference and be very much appreciated.

Thank you

Lee
