Isaac's Story

Isaac Tinch was a healthy rambunctious boy who loved to be outside. He enjoyed wood carving to make walking sticks. He was an avid kayak and canoe enthusiast. And he would spend hours catching crawfish in the creek and fishing in the pond. The woods were one of his favorite places where he loved to hike and spend time. He has an older brother, Eli, who he loved to tease, and a younger sister, Emma. Isaac lives on a farm which made it so easy to enjoy the outdoors he loved so much.

Then one day he had an accident on his roller blades. His brain was damaged so that an aneurism formed in his brain stem and it bled multiple times. Isaac was in the hospital four days shy of four months. He was in two hospitals during this time, one relatively near his home and the other in Atlanta four hours away. His mother was with him all of the time and his siblings and father would visit for a week at a time often, providing the home environment.

When Isaac came home everything had changed. Since the accident Isaac has not been able to walk, talk, eat, and is completely dependent on his family for everything. Isaac has multiple special equipment to aid him in living and developing. He has varied facial expressions, laughing, smiling, frowning, and crying. Actually his personality has changed from a bit shy prior to the accident to a real outgoing boy in spite of his limitations. The nurses know Isaac as a "˜real flirt.'

Since the accident Isaac continues to love competitive activities. He will challenge anyone to a duel of thumb wrestling. He continues to love being the prankster. In therapy he will try to step on the toes of therapists and friends, or while practicing walking he loves to try to walk over anyone in the way. He can still spell and read since his accident, as well as counting and even some success at writing motion as supported by his mother. Obviously Isaac has made much progress in developmental therapy since coming home.

We are raising these funds for an all terrain electric wheel chair for Isaac. With his love for the outdoors and the sense of peace and joy it gives him, we feel Isaac will continue to develop even further as he is able to move more freely outdoors. This chair will enable his parents to accompany him to places that are nearly impossible at the present time. For example, each year the extended family goes on a camping trip. This has always been a highlight for Isaac. With this new chair Isaac will be mobile and ready to enjoy such activities as camping, hiking, and fishing in the outdoors he dearly loves.

The family has seen that stimulation for Isaac activates recovery step by step. As Isaac is able to experience these adventures outdoors the threshold of stimulation will rise drastically and so his development will rise also. Our goal for fund raising on this chair is $17,000 and all other funds raised will support Isaac's development and the equipment involved for this. We believe Isaac has the potential to fully recover and we are trusting God for His healing help as we progress step by step.
