Last years summit

In August 2018 we held a summit in Kitwe, Zambia. The GBCZ team’s goal was to figure out the needs of the Deaf communities throughout Zambia from the people themselves.
How many people and organizations (roughly speaking)
We invited 50 leaders of the deaf community from all 10 provinces in Zambia. Association leaders, educators, government officials, and college students all came to share their knowledge and experience in their communities.

What projects were launched last year

During the summit we were able to start several projects including;
Developing a Deaf Education Curriculum for universities in Zambia
Creating equal access for Deaf students in universities in Zambia. Currently, Deaf students are often refused admission because they are deaf.

Expand the only Deaf founded and managed Deaf school in Zambia past the 7th-grade level. Most of the students are homeless or orphans and will have nowhere to go after they complete 7th grade.
Developing a Zambian Sign Language Dictionary which will guide the creation of and standardized Sign Language Interpreter Association.
