The miracle of life and pregnancy

This is to all mothers out there who
treasured the experience of carrying their baby: the miracle that is
a new life combined with the special bond that forms during
pregnancy. What if you hadn't been able to?
Becoming pregnant and giving birth is my dream. It is my most wished-for wish. It has been since I was 8 or 9 when my mom explained how my younger brother had come to be. It sounded so amazing even at that age. Unfortunately, routine appendicitis when I was 15 was misdiagnosed for almost a week. Thankfully I did not die (it was close), but we had no idea how much damage had been done to my future fertility. Fast forward 20ish years and I received the most heart-breaking news of my life: I couldn't get pregnant without surgery and subsequent IVF (in-vitro fertilization: very invasive, unpleasant and expensive). I was crushed. Again and again, beautiful little babies came into my family and the families of my friends and relatives. I was so happy for the new parents, and silently wrestled with my own sadness and devastation.
Now at age 39 next week, my blood test hormone levels indicate it's now or never as my ovaries are nearing the end of their egg reserves. $15,000 is a daunting barrier to having a baby, but it is my reality and I cannot let it end my most enduring, deepest wish/hope/dream of becoming pregnant and giving birth.
For the last year I have been studying to become a social worker. On a daily basis I am honored to be trusted by my clients to bear witness to the pain and struggles they go through. I have also been deeply affected by their perseverance and resiliency. It is that inspiration "“ knowing when to ask for help and believing both that it exists and that it can make a difference "“ that allows me to swallow my pride and send out a prayer/wish/intention/request to help me make my dream a reality.
