Thania's Brain Tumor Treatment

Hi, my name is Dustin. I’m starting this GoFundMe to help support my wife of 23 years and the mother of our two children, through her recent brain tumor diagnosis.

Thania will be undergoing the first of 2 initial surgeries on August 29th to remove the tumor. Then there will be a treatment plan for Radiation Therapy.

Our Story

The shocking diagnosis came to us on Wednesday, August 17th, when, due to yet another migraine, we sought another solution with a neurologist specializing in migraines. Fortunately, the Doctor decided to investigate the cause of Thania's migraines further, by sending us for a CAT scan, as her migraines seem to have spiraled out of control over the past three months. We headed to the lab, where the CAT scan identified a growth at the base of the brain, which has been causing severe CFS fluid buildup. Our doctor confirmed and immediately sent us to see a Neurosurgeon who was expecting to see us in the emergency room to devise a plan for the surgery. In only a matter of 8 agonizing hours, we went from migraine to planning for brain surgery.

Additional CAT scans followed, all pointing to the need for major surgery as soon as possible.

The Urgent Need

The reason for this Gofundme? Unfortunately, we have been denied health insurance due to a diagnosis of high blood pressure (HBP) years ago. We now know that the cause of the HBP is the tumor, which has been constricting CFS flow. Unfortunately, this has left us no recourse other than to finance our medical expenses out of pocket for years.

However, in this case, the upcoming surgery is simply beyond what we can do alone. We need help to cover the cost of the surgery, the radiation treatment, and the physical therapy that will follow.

In addition, your donation would help me reduce secular work to care for our two children, greatly affected by this sudden change in their mom's life, in addition to my wife's surgery, follow-up treatment and recovery.

Nuestra Historia

El impactante diagnóstico nos llegó el miércoles 17 de agosto, cuando, debido a otra migraña, buscamos otra solución con un neurólogo especialista en migrañas. Afortunadamente, el Doctor decidió investigar más a fondo la causa de las migrañas de Thania, enviándonos una tomografía computarizada, ya que sus migrañas parecen haberse descontrolado en los últimos tres meses. Nos dirigimos al laboratorio, donde la tomografía computarizada identificó un crecimiento en la base del cerebro, que ha estado causando una acumulación severa de líquido CFS. Nuestro médico confirmó e inmediatamente nos envió a ver a un Neurocirujano que nos esperaba en la sala de emergencias para diseñar un plan para la cirugía. En solo unas 8 angustiosas horas, pasamos de la migraña a la planificación de una cirugía cerebral.

Siguieron tomografías computarizadas adicionales, todas apuntando a la necesidad de una cirugía mayor lo antes posible.

La Necesidad Urgente

¿La razón de este Gofundme? Desafortunadamente, se nos ha negado el seguro de salud debido a un diagnóstico de presión arterial alta hace años. Ahora sabemos que la causa de la presión alta es el tumor, que ha estado restringiendo el flujo del SFC. Desafortunadamente, esto no nos ha dejado otro recurso que financiar nuestros gastos médicos de nuestro bolsillo durante años.

Sin embargo, en este caso, las próximas cirugías simplemente están más allá de lo que podemos hacer solos. Necesitamos ayuda para cubrir el costo de la cirugía, el tratamiento de radiación y la fisioterapia que seguirá.
