During my first year of high school, I lost my father to diabetes. It was by far the hardest year of my life because I was not able to go back to Nigeria to see him, even with DACA. If I did I wouldn’t have a assurance of being able to come back to the United States.
Everything from my grades to my emotions, everything seemed like it was slowly falling apart. However, my father left a piece of himself imprinted into my heart along with life memories and lessons . My father taught me that we are brought into this earth to bless the next person. As human beings, we must work to help each other, and that is how we find meaning in our own lives . He taught me that knowledge is the most wonderful thing a human can have and experience.
Knowledge makes our lives valuable. No one can take your knowledge away even if they strip you of everything tangible you have. I know nothing would have made my father happier than to see me graduate from college. For me, attending college isn’t just an opportunity, but rather, a blessing. College changes people’s lives; it can give meaning to one’s existence, and set one apart from other competition. School instills dedication and teaches us how to overcome obstacles.
These donations will help me finish school and register for my next semester. After undergrad, I want to get into pharmacy school, and that is really important to me. Graduating is the first step for me to be able to help others. There is no way around it- I need to finish school! People have helped me so much, I don’t know what I would do without the help of those around me, and the best way I can give back is go to school, learn what I can, and give back to people.
