Eleanor Visalli - #TeamEl

Eleanor Visalli - Mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend, caregiver......any of you who know Eleanor know she is nothing short of an Angel on earth. Always there to lend a hand or a prayer. In 1996 El was an RN at St Lukes Memorial Hospital and was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer that typically only affects non-smokers and never smokers. And what makes it worse, is that this form of lung cancer does not respond to any chemo or radiation therapy. After undergoing a grueling operation in which she lost her entire left lung, the fighter in her beat the odds and she made it through. Her strength and motivation came from the fact that she knew we all needed her.... even in the toughest of times she still thought about everyone else. Not only has she maintained a warm and loving household as a wife, a full time caregiver to her live-in mother, and the best mentor to her sons, daughter in laws and beautiful grandchild. El is also beloved by an extended family and friends who always feel like family in her presence.


Here is the surreal part of this story; El has battled back, working out continuously to build up her lung capacity to where she is in the best physical shape of her life, one lung and all. However, here we are, 17 years later and this wonderful woman we all love dearly has been diagnosed with cancer in her other lung, with an even bigger battle ahead. Eleanor is in very good spirits and is preparing mentally and emotionally for another big surgery, the only treatment option available. Because of the uniqueness of her situation (having only one lung), the best place for treatment are cancer centers far from her hometown. We are attempting to raise funds to help out with the travel and medical expenses so that Eleanor can concentrate on the most important part of this process..... healing.
