My name is Kris Ritchie and i would like to share my personal story with you and ask for some help.
In 2006 i sold my house in Australia, I had $270,000 and needed a break. In Jan 2007 I made a decision to spend a year in Bali, before deciding where i wanted to be and what i wanted from life.
At the time i was 52 and, i guess,looking for my "calling". I was always passionate about animals, dogs in particular.
Despite loving Bali immediately, i was horrified after seeing many injured, abandoned and neglected dogs everywhere i went.
As many people do after arriving in Bali, i wanted to save them all. I had money so why not help as much as i could?
I started feeding a few beach and street dogs everyday. As with most of us, its hard to walk away when you see an injured animal, so i woulod be almost daily at the vet with one dog or another.
Two dogs in particular stole my heart and i took them home with me. I still wasnt intending to stay in Bali florever, but better i gave them a great life for a year than left them to possibly die.
The more i fed dogs, the more started coming. Im a sucker for a hungry face, of course i fed them all.
To cut a long story short, its now more than 10 years later. Those 2 dogs have now increased to 6 at home who were the most neglected, or faced death, i have 9 dogs i pay for in boarding who are now adults and probably no chance of getting adopted, so may beach and parking lot dogs i feed daily ive lost count and have been relying on dog food donations and small amounts of money from friends and acquaintances ive made over the years.
As a solo rescuer i never know where the next money is coming from, i do it alone with no help from large organizations here.
Thanks to help from friends i have been able to get through the past couple of years, but now my lease is up on my house, i have to move, the landlord plans to renovate, and i have no money for another house.
Some of you are probably asking why i dont just go back to Australia.
What do i do with all the dogs im responsible for?
Who will pay for the daily boarding fees, where will my dogs at home that i love dearly go? Who will feed the beach and street dogs?
Thats why Im starting this Go Fund Me, in the hope that people can help me to continue what i do in Bali.
I would like to add, ive never lived in a Villa, never had a swimming pool, most of the time i dont even have running water, Im not living a life of luxury. I just want help to stay and continue to help the animals that come to rely on me.
My goal is to raise enough money to make it possible to continue to help the Bali animals for as long as Im physically capable of doing so.
