Help For Rays Recovery Fund

On Sept 12, 2016 Ray was diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis. In his case, it may have been the result of an auto immune disorder that had remained undetected. We had been advised that his condition would deteriorate and he would require a double lung transplant. His need for oxygen use increased and in November this year he was officially activated on the list. His lungs were hardening and the worst side (left) was down to 38%. The biggest hurdle was going to be that his body was creating an abnormal amount of antibodies which made finding a match more difficult (they had to have none or a miniscule amount), it also made his risk of rejection higher. We were told he was #3 on a list of 40 in BC... then we were told to wait... On Dec 14th at 1:30 pm the most surprising call came that they had found a match! He was airlifted by helicopter to Vancouver General and surgery began at midnight. The donor was an iv drug user (all blood screens had come back clear) and his family wanted to ensure his life had purpose. Today Ray is awake and off life support; astounding everyone. However, the risks are not over and he and my mom must remain in Vancouver for 3 to 6 months. He will be on a cornucopia of medication for the rest of his LONG life to prevent rejection but will leave him susceptible to many illnesses. We have family on the lower mainland thankfully but they will need to live closer than where they are. This Gofund me page is to help them during the recovery process as much as possible whether it's with food purchases, or even just the cost of rent for wherever my mom will be staying. She's already been forced to shell out a decent amount of cash in the first few days they have been over there due to hotel costs near the hospital. So if you have even a dollar your willing to put towards this Gofund me I know it would mean the world to my mom and to Ray. She is a strong woman and he is a very tough man but that doesn't mean they don't need help once in a while. Thank you for anything your willing to donate and here's wishing that rays recovery goes great.
