Josh Henry: Community vs. Brain Cancer

Donation protected
Anyone who knows Josh, knows that family is the foundation of his life and his single most important priority. You can tell by the way he and Tracey have spent their years together building a beautiful family and a home that feels like a warm embrace the moment you step through the door.

When you spend time with the Henry family you come away with a heart expanded by laughter and with more room to love. And this same spirit that they channeled into building such a home, radiates outward into their community.

How many lives has Josh touched? How many of us have been on the receiving end of his selfless spirit?

And so, when we heard the inconceivable news that Josh has Stage 4 brain cancer "“ we ached. We wanted to do something, anything, to come alongside and show Josh and Tracey what they mean to us...because we cannot do what we really wish...and just make it all go away.

Josh is doing everything he can to fight for his life. He is undergoing aggressive and physically damaging chemo and radiation therapy in Toronto. Tracey is holding the heart of the family together at home, making a safe space for their girls while she continues to be a bedrock of support to Josh.

And yes, there is something we can do as well.

We can give money.

At a time like this, it seems ludicrous that money should matter at all. Sadly it does.

Josh's treatment creates significant travel, accommodation and food costs. His chemotherapy medication is not covered by Ontario health care and requires costly additional insurance. He is not working at this time.

And then of course there are all those on-going daily expenses when you have three small girls, too numerous to list. And there is the future to plan.

We can show our practical love and support by giving. And in doing so, we can send a clear message to the Henry family that we want to be a part of their present, and their future.

We may not be able to change what is happening, but we can stand with Josh in caring for his family and in caring for him.

Together, as a community, we can make a huge difference in the lives of a family that has given so much to us.
