Wheelchair Access Van for Erica Bennett
Donation protected
Erica Bennett is the sweetest little girl I have met in a long time. Erica has been diagnosed with Dandy Walker Variant Malformation, Cerebral Palsy, Periventricular Leukomalacia(PVL), Low Tone, Failure to Thrive, Cortical Blindness, Asthma, and I'm sure I missed something on this list. As she gets older and bigger her mobility is becoming increasingly strained. Erica's mother(Donna) works a very physically demanding job to provide for Erica. With all the demands of her job and the demands of Erica, her body is exhausted. Erica has doctor visits, clinical visits, therapy, and many outings with family. On a daily outing Erica requires at the very least 3 bags full of equipment, clothing, diapers, and feeding supplies. The task of loading Erica into the current van from the house consists of carrying Erica(who weighs in at almost 40 lbs. of "dead weight") out to the van and lifting her into her car seat. Getting Erica out of the van requires removing her chair(50+/- lbs.) from the back of the van, lifting Erica(40 lbs.) out of the van and lowering her into the chair. Putting her back into the van to return home or go to another location requires lifting Erica from her chair and placing her in her car seat, and lifting her chair back into the van. There is no mechanical lifting devices on the current van to assist with these tasks. There is no one more deserving of funds for a wheelchair accessible van than this precious little girl and her mother.
