As many of you know, my God daughters, Karla, Angie, and Raquel just lost their grandmother, Maria Velasco (Mema). A blood infection caused massive organ failure and took away this beloved member of their family. The Saavedra family has been through so much lately and it is with a heavy heart that I see them suffering now.
This family's burdens, coupled with the costs of a funeral, are overwhelming. That is why I am reaching out to you to help the Saavedra (Velasco) family through this trying time. Whether you share an uplifting word, help with food, or can donate toward the funeral costs--your thoughtfulness will most certainly be a blessing!
Funeral Costs breakdown:
The funeral home (Gasch's of Hyattsville, MD) requires a $4,000 deposit before confirming any funeral arrangements. The other half ($4,000) can be paid at the time of the funeral. Then the cemetery cost is $2,000 to bring Mama Maria to her final resting place. Total: $10,000 (a daunting amount for any family to raise).
Although this site is a wonderful tool, it does charge a percentage fee for each donation (close to 8%). So if you'd like to donate to the family directly feel free to email me for the family's contact information. I can still add your donation to our tracker here without incurring a fee. :)
