Keith's Cancer Fund

Donation protected
Almost everyone knows by now that within the last month, Keith was diagnosed with lymphoma. Lymphoma is when white blood cells go haywire, mutate and multiply. So Keith's cancer is a blood cancer (not lung cancer)  that decided to form a 1" X 0.8" tumor in the upper lobe of his right lung. Providentially, he went to the doctor for a lingering cough,  which led to an xray, which led to further scans, procedures and to this diagnosis. Apart from the nagging cough he's experienced, he's had no pain and only a slight shortness of breath exercising, etc. Otherwise, his lung function tests have been excellent.

We are very thankful (sounds strange, I know) that the specific lymphoma he has (6-words long) is very treatable and has an excellent prognosis. As the oncologist told us, "If you have to have cancer, this is the one to have."  There is a possibility that radiation treatment he'll have could irradicate the tumor or put Keith into remission for a very long time.

Next week he'll have the chest cast made that will make it possible for the radiation to pinpoint the tumor. The week after that he'll begin 2-4 weeks of 5 days/week treatments (15 minutes/day). After 2 weeks, they'll check the treatment's progress on the tumor with another PET scan and decide about 2 more weeks of treatments.

Our medical insurance is with Kaiser Permanente. We are grateful to have the coverage we have, but the 20% co-pay, out-of-pocket expense for this treatment is far, far beyond our means ($5,500).  Also, Keith is self-employed doing contracted work, so we are also looking at the impact of lost income ($4,500).  We've already incurred $2,000 in expenses.

Everyone has asked us what they can do to help. Prayer remains paramount. Please keep praying. As encouraging as the doctors have been we know in Whom our trust lies. We are also setting up this fund so that if you are able to help us financially, please do so. It would be appreciated more that you can know! Since we have to pay at the time of each doctor.'s appointment, treatment, and scan (treatment starting in two weeks) starting to build this fund as soon as possible would really help us.

We are encouraged by the love and support we've received! Thank you for joining us on this unexpected journey. We'll keep you posted!
