Leg Surgery for Andres

My name is Conner Wilson, and I served an LDS mission to Asunción, Paraguay. While serving in the Ñemby Stake, I met Andres Baez (pictured, center,) the father of a wonderful family of humble saints. The family serves their brothers and sisters, and provided food to the missionaries, even when their finances were really, really tight. Brother Baez is a returned missionary, husband, and father of six children, worked long hours of manual labor to provide for his family. That is, until January.

Early this year, on his way home from work, he was in a crash where he shattered his knee and broke his femur. He hasn’t been able to work, or even get out of bed, for around 9 months. He needs surgery to repair his knee and femur, as well as an apparatus to help him heal in the meantime before he can actually get surgery. The cost is pretty astronomical to the family, as the prosthetic alone costs more than the average yearly income of a Paraguayan household. The clock is probably running out for his leg, and as you can probably guess, the conditions in Paraguay are not like those in the United States. I love this family.

Brother Baez is a hardworking man who loves his wife and children, and tries his best to be a strong disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. I am terribly heartbroken by their current condition, and I’m worried about their future. This family was generous and loving to me as a missionary, and even fed my family when my parents came to Paraguay to bring me home. I was humbled when they reached out to me for help, and I know that there are good, generous people out there. It’s the Christmas season and Andres is bedridden and unable to provide for his family. It’s a season of giving and charity, and they need your help. Thank you so much.
